Xandy Smith has proven his versatility in many forms of filmmaking across a range of formats, genres, and budgets. Currently, his career thrives in commercials, directing spots for clients ranging in scope from Verizon Wireless to local hospitals like Yale-New Haven. Through several early years of assisting some of the industry's top commercial directors at Headquarters, he learned the 30-second format very intimately.
Much of Xandy's success in commercials stems from his interest in narrative filmmaking and his passion for working closely with actors. He understands the importance of telling a story and has spent years with highly regarded acting coaches to fortify his craft as a director. In 2005, Xandy was tapped to direct the short, Trespass, with an award-winning cast, including Harry Lennix (Ray, MatrixRevolutions). After the film's successful festival run, it was picked up and aired by HBO, which has helped lead to the feature film projects he now has in development.
Xandy also takes advantage of the creative playground afforded by music videos, and always welcomes the chance to experiment with new tools and visual styles. He's directed everything from chart-topping rock to YouTube-sensation rap, Grammy nominated hip-hop, and the cult genre of psychobilly.
